Answering the community need for additional beds, Dignity Health commissioned RBB to design a new patient tower.
The constricted site required careful master planning, which resulted in the demolition of existing structures in order to accommodate the new inpatient tower. The 106-bed tower included 146,000 SF of new construction and 44,000 SF of remodel, resulting in a combination of critical care beds and general hospital beds, and shell space that would accommodate up to 30 beds for future use. The program also included a 3,000 SF pharmacy, a chapel, admitting and registration, education and conference spaces, a new parking structure, and a new central plant. New construction and remodeling were phased to minimize disruption of operations.
